Amazon.com Review If you think small-town life can be boring--think again. There are complex social rules: there are certain people with whom you fraternize and those you don't, and, of course, there is the all-powerful gossip. Everyone knows everything about everyone else. Don't they? That's what Maddie Farraday thinks until she finds a pair of black crotchless panties in her husband's car that don't belong to her. That's it; Maddie's had it. She's ready for change, and the first thing she's going to do is divorce her no-good, philandering husband Brent. But then everything goes haywire: Brent turns up dead, Maddie's daughter wants a dog, her best friend is suddenly acting very strange, and Maddie's secret boyhood crush, bad boy C. L. Sturgis, arrives in town after a 20-year hiatus--and he's as sexy as ever. You may laugh out loud at the wild and crazy antics in Jennifer Crusie's exceptional novel, but you'll exclaim with delight over the sizzling, dynamic, passionate affair between Maddie and her first love, C. L.
Product Description
Maddie Faraday’s life would be perfect—if it weren’t for her cheating husband her suspicious daughter her gossipy mother her secretive best friend her nosy neighbors, and that guy she lost her virginity to twenty years ago who is suddenly back in town. . . .
Suddenly, life in southern Ohio just got a little more scandalous.

Great mix of humor and romance April 6, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Tell Me Lies led me to go out and get my hands on every Jennifer Crusie book I could find. It was the first one I read and remains one of my favorite re-reads.I lost count of the number of times I laughed out loud while reading Tell Me Lies. While particularly appealing to those with small town backgrounds (myself included), there's something here for everyone. The overbearing mother, the old flame who still makes your heart pitter patter, a best friend who brings you chocolate - these are characters we all can relate to. Add in a dash of romance, a murder mystery, secrets from the past, a fast paced plot, and lots of chuckles and this makes for a great read. I loved Maddie's quest to redefine herself and the funny, yet poignant answers she found. On top of that, Crusie does a great job of keeping you guessing "whodunit" and then nicely wraps all the loose ends. A terrific read!
Hilarious book! March 22, 1999 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I have read so many hilarious, delightful books lately and TELL ME LIES is one of the best! My favourite funny/romance writer is Susan Elizabeth Phillips but doesn't she herself say on the cover of Crusie's book:" A humerous mixture of romance, mystery and mayhem. A Winner!" And she's absolutely right! I loved all the characters - Maddie, Treva, Gran, Em, Mel and (wow!) C.L. As he says about himself:"Full service man, that's me." "That's what I heard," said Treva. The lines are funny but tender and the way C.L. sticks by Maddie and Em is admirable. Crusie is a very gifted writer ( and damned funny!). If you like Phillips and Janet Evanovich, you'll love this!

Crusie at Her Best April 6, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It takes quite a lot to make me laugh aloud while reading, but this book manages to make me do so. From the moment I picked it up I was in hysterics, and Jennifer Crusie's description of small-town life can be truly appreciated by anyone who's ever lived in one. Her sense of the absurd captures the truly ridiculous things that can occur in real life. A friend who borrowed the book came in to work upset because she was up the whole night reading it. Any woman can sympathise with Maddie, and anyone who's wanted to change their life but wasn't sure how to go about it will appreciate her story.
One of my favorite Crusie titles! July 23, 2005 A. Karasick (Chicago, IL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have read many of Crusie's books and this one is my favorite. I love the idea of revisiting a high school romance as Maddie and CL do....very sexy! The murder mystery makes things exciting and helps draw CL and Maddie closer. I saw the best friend's secret a mile away, but figuring things like that out is half the fun in Crusie's books. This is a great one. Take this book and Crusie's Welcome to Temptation on your next vacation for fun reading.
