| Customer Reviews: Very lucid, thorough and enlightening lesson in US Civics June 22, 2010 ChangYai (boston) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
American Democracy would be strengthened if every American were encourage to read this book. Its contents and layout would greatly enhance the teaching of US history and government and make Americans remember not only what American democracy is but some idea (over time) how and why it developed as it did. This balanced book in semi-textbook style systematically lays out the foundations and development of the American nation's political structures and standards. This is the kind of book that might allow people to become more patriotic or at least more understanding about the merits and weaknesses of American government.
Each chapter provides not only insight but also paths to deeper understanding of our American laws but clues on where to look in order to gain further understanding.
I am no expert, but I have always had a deep appreciation for government, politics, law and history. This book amply provides a great starting point in all of these areas when it comes to understanding the government of the United States of America.
